The next morning I woke up with tears in my eyes. I probably had the dream again.
I made my bed, brushed my teeth and washed my face. The smell of my mom’s pancakes made hungrier. “Morning mom” I said, stealing a pancake
“Morning darling” she smiled at me. “April, I think you need to go for a walk. Maybe you could get some fresh air. Without your friends” she looked concerned
“Okay, sure” She was right. My head was full at the moment.
I got dressed up and walked to the park. People still stared at me. Why won’t they just leave me alone? Without looking at anyone, I walked towards a tree and sat underneath it. My eyes closed and memories came rushing back.
“Hello daddy?” I couldn’t hear my father anymore. The last thing I heard was a loud crash. “Daddy what’s wrong?” The last thing my dad said was ‘I love you April’. I was just 5 years old when I lost my dad. Danny was the person that kept me happy. I met him when I was 3 in kindergarten. Unfortunately 2 years after the death of my father; Danny was also ‘taken away’ from me. “April, I love you. I’ll be your dad” is what Danny told me when tears were the only thing that ever came to me.
“Hey, aren’t you the girl I met yesterday?” That voice; why did it sound so familiar? “Hello?” I felt a hand tap at my shoulders.
“Oh, Sorry, I was just thinking about something” I quickly wiped the tears away from my eyes.
“What were you thinking about?” he asked, looking concerned.
“I was thinking about my past. Don’t want to talk about it”
“Okay. So, I didn’t get a chance to ask for your name” he sat down next to me.
“I’m April” I said blankly
“April. That’s a beautiful name” he smiled. “So April, where do you school?”
“Gray Lynn College ” I don’t know why I told him.
“Why-“he started, but I interrupted him.
“Not to be rude or anything, but I don’t really know you; and it’d be better if I kept my distance from strangers” before he said anything else, I stood up, grabbed my bag and walked back home
“Dude, do you know how creepy this is? You just followed me home?”
“I don’t mind” he chuckled.
“Mom I’m home!” I yelled when I entered the house
“Hello Ap-“she dropped what she was holding when she entered the living room. “Danny?”
“Ms. Paradise?” Daniel looked as shocked as mom looked.
“What’s going on here?” I asked.
“Daniel, can I have a word with you?” she led him into the kitchen. I couldn’t hear much but I picked up a few things.
“..In a coma..?” mom started off
“Mom said...”
“..Out of a coma…” it sounded like mom was pleading with him. After a few minutes of talking, they both came back.
“April, I have to go now. Bye” he left. I didn’t care what was going on, so I just went up to my room.
I dreamt that I was in a black room with no exits. Danny was there, I ran up to him to hug him but he kept moving away. I stopped running, he stopped moving. Danny’s figured suddenly disappeared and I fell into a dark hole that led to nowhere. Danny wasn’t there, dad wasn’t there and mom wasn’t there. No one was there.
“Danny!” I yelled. Oh, it was only a dream.
I put my uniform on, it suited my style perfectly; black top, red tie, red miniskirt and black shoes. I grabbed my lunchbox and was off to the bus stop.
When the bus stopped I got in and sat down at an empty seat. I got out a piece of paper from my wallet and made a; New School, New Dramas, New Faces, New Bullies and I don’t really know about New Loves but I’ll still put it down.
The bus stopped again and someone got in. I quickly crossed ‘New Dramas’ out of my list as soon as I saw him.
